GTA 6 preload starts November 10, with different timing on PS5 and Xbox.

A week before a major game launches, the download window can matter almost as much as the release date. Rockstar has now posted the practical details for Grand Theft Auto VI.

The official pre-load FAQ, updated November 3, says digital downloads begin on November 10. On PS5, that is midnight in your local time zone. On Xbox Series X|S, it is midnight GMT worldwide — 7 PM Eastern on November 9. Rockstar’s game page still lists the full release for November 19 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.

Leave room before you queue it

Rockstar’s FAQ says the pre-load needs up to 212 GB of available space, depending on your device. PlayStation’s current product page separately tells PS5 owners to clear a minimum of 212 GB. Rockstar does not give a separate exact figure for Xbox, so do not assume both consoles have an identical final download size.

On PS5, Rockstar says auto-downloads must be enabled and the console must be on or in Rest Mode. PlayStation’s pre-order guide explains how to check the timer and auto-download boxes in your Game Library. For Xbox, Rockstar says automatic updates must be enabled and the console should be on or in Sleep mode. Its linked Xbox pre-order help page did not render as readable text in our check, so use the console’s current settings screen if Microsoft’s instructions differ.

That gives you a useful head start: clear space ahead of November 10 and check power and download settings now. The preload is for digital copies, and downloading early does not change Rockstar’s announced November 19 release date.
