- PEAK’s October 22 console releases bring cross-platform co-op for up to four players.
- Xbox Play Anywhere covers the Xbox console and Xbox PC versions; it is separate from crossplay.
One friend owns a PS5. Another is on Xbox. Someone else refuses to leave their PC. The game-night chat spends longer negotiating a purchase than actually playing anything.
PEAK has a useful answer. Its October 22 console releases bring cross-platform climbing, so the group can argue about who dropped the rope instead.
The PS5 announcement from Team PEAK says you can climb with up to three friends across platforms. The PlayStation version also includes the content updates added since the original launch. You aren't being invited to a stripped-back starting point while everyone else discusses things you can't reach.
Two different kinds of “play anywhere”
Xbox’s launch post confirms Xbox Series X|S and Xbox on PC, with crossplay and Xbox Play Anywhere. That last part means the Xbox purchase covers its console and PC versions. It doesn't mean buying an Xbox copy gives you a PlayStation or Steam license.
Crossplay solves who can join you. Play Anywhere solves where that particular purchase can be used. They're both useful; they answer different questions.
The Xbox listing describes friends-only multiplayer for a party of up to four, plus solo play. This is a good moment to nominate the person who actually sends the invites. A feature list cannot rescue a group chat where everyone says “whenever” and nobody names an hour.
The mountain is an excuse
The attraction here is the kind of shared problem PEAK sets up. The developers describe hungry, injured scouts helping one another up a dangerous climb, with room to adjust a run's difficulty. That sounds like a promising setting for a friend who takes charge and another who immediately eats something suspicious.
That's an editorial read of the setup, not a claim that we've tested the console versions. Connection quality and the feel of a particular platform still deserve their own scrutiny.
For the first session, agree on what everyone wants: a careful attempt at the summit, or an evening spent learning how spectacularly a plan can fall apart. Neither is the wrong answer. Getting four people into the same game is already a small victory.
