A good reason to revisit an old game is sitting in your library already. Before treating Metro Redux’s new Xbox update as a reason to buy another bundle, check whether you own the two games it refreshes.
In its October 29 announcement, 4A Games says the free update is available for Metro 2033 Redux and Metro: Last Light Redux on Xbox Series X|S. These are the earlier Metro campaigns, not Metro Exodus. The updated Xbox listing identifies both included games and carries a Play Anywhere badge.
Start with the save-game catch
Deep Silver’s platform notes contain the detail we would read first: saves from the Microsoft Store version do not carry over to the upgraded version. The publisher recommends starting a new game. Chapter select is unlocked, letting you start a chapter with a default set of equipment.
If you are halfway through a campaign, decide whether to finish it in the version you have before switching. Keep the older installation and save data until you have checked what is available. Chapter select may get you near the right place in the story, but default equipment is not your carefully stocked inventory.
The same notes list native 4K at 60fps and specify upscaled 4K at 120fps on Series X, with a compatible display required. The latter should not be read as a Series S promise. Revised lighting, textures and controller feedback are part of the developer’s pitch; we have not benchmarked the results.
Play Anywhere has an ownership rule
Xbox’s general Play Anywhere rules apply to participating digital games bought through its stores or eligible digital codes. Progress, add-ons and achievements can follow the same account across supported devices. That cross-device feature does not override Deep Silver’s warning about importing an old save into this upgrade.
A disc or a copy from another PC storefront does not automatically establish a Play Anywhere entitlement. Sign into the account that owns your copy and check the exact edition in your library before spending again. The new listing includes PC alongside Xbox; an older bundle page can show a different platform list. If the upgrade is not offered to your account, resolve that with support before paying twice.
Prices and offers vary by storefront and region, so this is an update guide rather than a deal recommendation. If you already own Redux, the first stop is your downloads and updates. A return trip through the tunnels need not begin at checkout.
