Claude can read your bank activity. Check what stays behind when you disconnect.

The useful question for a money dashboard is whether you can trace its answer back to the account. Claude’s new Personal Finance beta makes that worth asking before you settle into the convenient summary.

Anthropic’s November 5 announcement describes a Plaid connection that lets Claude explain spending and balances. It cannot transfer or invest your money. This is a gradual US rollout for Pro, Max and Ultra subscribers. The help page lists web, desktop, iOS and Android access; Free, Team and Enterprise are excluded, and only US banks can be linked.

Anthropic warns that balances can lag by a day or two. An unavailable bank can disappear from spending totals, while accounts connected through different logins may be counted twice. Before acting on a reassuring total, compare the underlying accounts with your bank’s app or statement.

We would start with one modest question and verify the answer. A clean chart is a reason to investigate, not evidence that every transaction arrived correctly.

Disconnecting is not deleting

The announcement says conversations inside the Personal Finance hub are excluded from model training; material shared elsewhere follows your privacy settings. That boundary is worth remembering when moving information between chats.

The help page says unlinking stops new access, but earlier replies, artifacts and shared links remain until removed. Shared chats can expose the figures in their messages. Review what you saved and shared as well as the bank connection itself.
